Book Recommendation - Percy Jackson

Occasionally i'll recommend or review a series or book that is creative, informative, fun, addictive or just plain kick-ass. This time it's the fantastic recent series Percy Jackson
Percy Jackson & The Olympians Series:

Seven half-bloods shall answer the call
To storm or fire, the world must fall
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death

Set in the modern world the series follows the demi-god children of the ancient Greek and Roman gods. Percy Jackson is the son of Zeus, destined to either destroy or save the gods and Olympus if he lives to reach his 16th birthday. Percy Jackson & The Olympians is an amazing twist on Classic Mythology and a great read.

Summer Plans & Christmas Wishes.

Its almost Christmas, which means as usual i'm behind on my last minute present grabbing schedule. With high school out of the way i'm busy ensuring my own survival, which means job hunting, applications and hopefully a driver's license in the near future. I've met some great people during the insane high school years, people that have inspired me and some friends i'll take with me forever, so I feel like i've got something out of it. For a summer goal i'm going to get into shape (I mean it this time!) I've slimmed down some but summer is time for outdoors. Can I consider sunbathing a sport? I'm not giving up my snacks for anything!

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! Hope you get everything you wish and more

Issue: Gay Bullying

It really sickens me that in the 21st century there is still so much prejudice, labels and judgement that people consider being gay a crime against nature. Lately gay bullying has reached such an extreme that there has been an upsurge of gay harrasment related teen suicides. The fact that they feel that there was no other alternative and have tragically taken their own lives highlights what an issue gay bullying really is. To me someone who is openly gay shows great courage and strength of character. Many celebrities, including Chris Colfer, Ellen Degenerous and Anne Hathaway have joined the anti-gay bullying campaign 'It Gets Better', designed to offer support, hope and guidance to the LGBTQ community. Their messages of hope to those suffering from gay bullying are both heartwarming and inspiring. The campaign is aligned with the Trevor Project, a support-line dedicated to helping those confused or feeling alone about their sexuality. In the states a silent photographic campaign NOH8 was established campaigning against California Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage. Locals and Celebrities joined the cause in several open photoshoots throughout the states. Their mouths were tapped to represent oppression of speech and NOH8 were painted on their cheeks. The campaign has as of now reached 2000 official photos. Thats 2000 people, 2000 faces, speaking out for a cause. I hope the message of equality is eye-opening and beautiful to both straight and gay people.

Gleeful for Glee

On May 19th 2009 I was exposed to the epic show that is Glee. In my innocence I obviously had no idea what I was getting into, or that the show would soon become one of my loves. With the exception of Matthew Morrison (Mr.Shue) and Leah Micheal (Rachelle) who were known broadway stars, the core cast is composed of mostly fresh talent. For anyone searching for a new fun show on the box I definitely reccommend Glee, as theres not many shows on the network quite like it. It was the little show that could, as FOX was hesitant about green-lighting it's production. In the beginning a tiny 13 episode season was shot as the reactions of viewers were awaited with bated breath. Now, with Golden Globe wins, several award nominations and an extensive fanbase, it's proved it can go the distance! Don't Stop Believing!
